Weekend + Links Love

I'm headed to the beach this weekend (after running this race) to get a break from the heat. Something's gotta give. Stay cool yourself this weekend! Here are some links from the week that made me smile...

Everyone is chatting about this video of comedian Fabrizio Goldstein hosting free spinning classes on stationary Citi Bikes.

To combat the heat, I'm packing my closet with skirts and dresses, like this bright pink maxi skirt.

Indoor spinning comes to your living room.

A healthy spin on your favorite carnival foods.

These bean salads look delicious.

My running shoes are getting rave reviews after Wendy Davis wore them during her filibuster.

A Tip For Friends Of Divorcees

While I was in Denver a few weeks ago, I came upon boxes that I had packed away years ago during my divorce. Finding these boxes now is such a treat. Not because inside lies treasures (Anthropologie bowls!), but because inside each box panel is a special note from a dear friend who helped me pack my apartment during that time.

Also, on that note, here's a little tip for how you can help someone going through a divorce: If he or she is moving out of the apartment, offer to help sift through belongings.

Every couple separates things up differently, but in my case, my ex and I didn't care much about who got what. I was ready to pack up my clothes and be done with it. I'm so thankful now that I had a friend there to pack away some dishes, knives (which can really be quite expensive), books, decor, etc.

It sounds so trivial, and really it is, but when I started all over here in New York, it was so nice to find that I already had many of those staples. I do still kick myself, however, for not going through the toolbox! I miss that staple gun!

NYC Heat Survival Kit

Today's temperatures are supposed to hit 95 degrees with 53 percent humidity.

Let that sink in for a moment.

Now imagine yourself standing underground, waiting for the subway where the air doesn't move.

It gets disgusting fast.

Here are 6 essentials for battling New York City in the summer. We're talking loose skirts, sun umbrellas, hair up, sunscreen that fights UVA and UVB rays and the best pocket-size deodorant that, like this thick humid air, will never leave your side.

Denim Overalls

What do you think about overalls for adults?

I have to admit that I am loving these denim overalls. I think they would work well in the spring, summer or fall (that little gap in the torso would not be fun during the chilly New York City winter winds).

I've had friends and family visiting the city over the last week so it's been a busy few days!  I think I'm on a steady diet of Patsy's Pizza and Shake Shack (two must-haves for any city visitors). I'll be participating in the Solstice in Times Square today, a yoga event that takes place smack dab in the middle of Midtown. I think it'll be good to do a little yoga and be still for a while, although Times Square and zen don't exactly mix. I hope you have a enjoyable weekend! Here's a little list of links that caught my eye this week...

The Best Green Juice Recipe

That title has some bold words. But I mean it.

In my apartment, we are always begging our roommate, Trisha, to blend up her special green juice recipe. Well late Sunday night, she finally spilled the goods on what she puts inside.

I give you the best green juice recipe...ever. The ingredients deliver a burst of antioxidants, calcium, vitamin K (good for the brain and bones), flavonoids, hydration and more. Blend and enjoy!

What are your plans for the weekend? A dear friend is in town with her husband and two babies, so I’m off to kiss some chubby baby cheeks and show them the best food New York City has to offer (like this pizza). I hope your weekend is a good one. Here are a few links that caught my eye this week around the web…

A little embarrassing to share, but I’m always looking for ways to get more fiber.

One sample sale I don’t want to miss.

Bing Travel

Three lovely ladies from Bing stopped by my office yesterday to chat about the search engine, and I was so surprised to learn about one big benefit Bing offers when it comes to finding flights. After you search for airfares on Bing.com, its Price Predictor will actually tell you, based on all sorts of data from all sorts of places, whether or not the available prices are worth buying or if you should wait!

Is that something that you would find helpful when searching for airfare?

My roommates and I have been thinking about dashing over to Bermuda (only a two-hour flight from NYC) for a few days. We were ready to buy....but now with the help from our friends at Bing, we'll be waiting a bit longer before biting the bullet.

NYC Rain Survival Kit

one. two. three. four. five.

My editor sent us all home yesterday at 4:30 because a rain storm was on its way. Sounds a little silly, but New York City rain is a bit on the crazy side. It's nothing like the drizzles we'd get in Denver when I was growing up. When it rains here, it almost seems as if someone is standing above you with a bucket of water overturned.

After a year of city living, I've learned a sturdy dome umbrella and trusty rain boots are some of the most essential NYC accessories, along with a few other cozies to sulk in under the blankets (I'm so late on the "Downton Abbey" boat but I am hooked! Mr. Bates, you handsome devil!).
